ALBEMARLE - The Rev. Charles Richard Hinton, 78, of Route 5. died Thursday in N.C. Baptist Hospital, Winston Salem.
He had been in declining health for several weeks. The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at West Albemarle Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry McKinney, the Rev. Vernon Troutman and the Rev. Eddie McPeteis. Burial will in the Stanly Gardens of Memory, with masonic graveside rites by Lodge 348. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons, ministerial association and the Sunday School class from West Albemarle Baptist Church and Masons from Lodge 348. The family will be at Stanly Funeral Home Saturday night from 7 til 9 o'clock. Born April 21, 1902, in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of the late Charles R. and Alberta Snellings Hinton. He graduated cum laude from Wake Forest University and Southern Baptist Seminary in Kentucky. He served as pastor at West Ablemarle Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church in Albemarle and served as interium pastor in 17 other Baptist churches. He was a member of West Albemarle Baptist Church, serving as pastor emeritus and a member of Stanly Masonic Lodge 348, was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason by being a member of Carolina Consistory in Charlotte.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Beeker Hinton: four brothers, Elliot, Guy and William Hinton, all of Portsmouth. Va. and Lynwood Hinton of Jacksonville; one sister, Mrs. Mary Gill of Gordonsville, Va.
