Noted events in his life were:

1. Census in 1860 in Rowan Mills, Rowan, NC. 8 The 1860 census recorded P. S. Beeker, farmer, 30, living with wife Jane E., 27. Both were born in North Carolina. His real estate was valued at $1519 and personal estate $661. Their child Joseph is not listed with them, but does appear on the following census page where...

Katharine Rary, 50, is living with Joseph Beeker, 3; J. F. Owens, 24; and Barbara H. Beeker, 22. All were born in North Carolina. [This listing spans 2 census pages.]

An explanation for this unusual household is that Joseph Beeker is the son of J. F. Owens' sister, Jane E. Owens who married Philip Beeker and sired a child Joseph of the same age. The presence of a Barbara Beeker in the household suggests she is the brother of Philip Beeker, since they are about the same age. This would make Barbara's father the elder Philip Beeker Sr.

Katharine Rary may be the sister of Jane's father, Joseph Owens Sr., or mother Mary J., or a Beeker who married a Rary.

Katharine Rary had no real estate value, meaning she didn't own the land, so she was likely living on the land owned by a neighbor who is a relative. The previous listed neighbor is William Gardner, 38, and his wife Angeline, or, the next listed neighbor, M. Cowan, 51, and his wife Rebecca, 49. It's also possible Katharine's land adjoined P. S. Beeker's land, even though the census taker visited households in another order.

The census location was "county north of the N.C. rail road" and the post office was Rowan Mills.

2. Census in 1870 in Mount Ulla, Rowan, NC. 1 The 1870 census recorded in Mount Ulla Township: Joseph O. Beeker, at school, 11, and John Henry Beeker, at home, 8, living in the household of Joseph L. Wilson, farmer, 30; wife Jane E. Wilson, 33; daughter Mattie J., 4; and son William W., 2. Also in the home is a black farm laborer Madison Pritchett, 18. Everyone was born in North Carolina. Joseph's real estate was valued at $800 and personal estate $409. The post office was Salisbury. [Note: in online census the Beekers are indexed Becker].

3. Census in 1900 in Buffalo, Leon, TX. 9 The 1900 census recorded owning a home: Joseph Beeker, farmer, 43, born Oct 1857, living with wife Ella, 32, Feb 1868; Mary, 14, Nov 1886; Henry, 12, Mar 1888; and Minnie, 7, May 1893. Ella and Joseph were married for 14 years and she had birthed 3 children, all alive in 1900. Joseph and his parents were born in North Carolina. Ella and her children were born in Texas, and her father in Alabama and mother in Tennessee. A neighbor is Ella's mother, Mary Baker, farmer, widow, 58, May 1842, and her son Albert, 18, Mar 1882. Mary and her mother were born in Tennessee and her father in North Carolian. Albert was born in Texas and his father in Alabama.

Joseph and his parents were born in North Carolia. The children and their mother were born in Texas.

5. Census in 1920 in Buffalo, Leon, TX. 11 The 1920 census recorded Joe Becker [indexed wrong due to poor handwriting], 62, farmer, widowed, living with son Edward R., farm laborer, 17. Also with them is son, Henry Becker, 31, grocery store salesman, with his wife Katie, 30. Henry and his parents were born in North Carolina, and the others in Texas. Next door is Joe's mother-in-law, Mary L. Baker, widowed, 78, born in Tennessee.
