Hugh Frederick Leonard, born 16 December 1902 to Henry Lindsay and Cornelia Josephine Myers Leonard, was the youngest boy of 8 children. He lived on Happy Hill Road in the house that his parents moved from the Biesecker Road and built and addition on to it.
Hugh went to Happy Hill School and Reeds High School where he drove one of the 1st school buses at Reeds. They had 2 busses. He graduated in 1923.
Hugh married 16 June 1923 Grace Marie Michael, born 21 September 1904 to Eugene Marshall and Minnie Florence Lanier Michael. Gene and Minnie Michael were living in Winston-Salem. They bought a house and 60 acres of land on Highway 150 just south of Reeds and moved into the house when Grace was 4 months old, December 1904. Grace went to Churchland and Reeds School.
When Hugh and Grace were married, they moved to High Point, where Hugh went into the men's clothing business. Mr. Fred Younts came into the store as a partner and they named it Leonard and Yount's Clothing Store. In 1931 the Leonard and Younts store burned. It was a great loss. Virginia remembers going to the store the next day, it was an awful sight.
Their 1st child, Mary Virginia, born 4 Mar 1925 married 17 April 1943 Belton Bryce Koonts.
Their 2nd daughter, Edith Marie, born 14 April 1933 married 4 September 1951 Roy Clifton Koonts, Jr.
In 1935 the family moved back to Davidson County to live with Hugh's parents. Hugh helped with the farm and took it over when Lindsay had a stroke. He raised tobacco, sweet potatoes, and a lot of vegetables for truck farming. For Virginia, it was so much fun when some of her cousins came to help cap strawberries or hull beans and peas.
Their 3rd child, Hubert Lindsay, born 10 January 1942 on a night when it snowed very deep, was named for his grandfather Leonard. Lindsay married 18 December 1965 Phyllis Ann Beeker, and they live on Highway 64 West. He is using the spring that his grandfather Lindsay Leonard used before they dug a well, the same one used by the Elizabeth Wommack family so many years ago.
When Hugh and his family were plowing on the old Wommack place they found pieces of dishes in the field behind the house. When Cornelia Leonard and her grandchildren hoed corn in that field, she told stories about the Wommack family and the spring.
Lindsay Leonard went to Reeds School, West Davidson, then to DCCC. He married 18 December 1965 Phyllis Ann Beeker, born 24 June 1945 to Melvin and Frances Goss Beeker. They were married at Linwood United Methodist Church. Lindsay went into the Army August 1966 and served as a military policeman in Fort Hood, Texas.
Their children are: 1) Michelle Janice, born 6 March 1968 at Fort Hood, Texas; 2) Dana Carol born 29 July 1970 in Lexington; 3) Michael Lindsay born 12 February 1981 in Lexington
Phyllis went to Linwood Elementary School, Central Davidson High School, then to Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She works for Dr. H. G. Strader. Lindsay works for Color Graphics in High Point as a color corrector and photographer. They are members of Reeds Baptist Church. After Lindsay and Phyllis were married they found that Phyllis' great, great grandfather, Albert L. Myers, and Lindsay's great grandfather, James Addison Myers, were brothers, and sons of Benjamin and Elizabeth Wommack Myers.
Hugh married Grace Marie Michael on 16 Jun 1923 in Lexington, Davidson, NC.1 2 (Grace Marie Michael was born on 21 Sep 1904 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth, NC,1 6 died on 12 Apr 1999 in Lexington, Davidson, NC 6 and was buried in Reeds Crossroads: Reeds Baptist Church Cemetery, Davidson, NC 6.)
