AGE: 91 - NEWARK Left this world to live in eternal peace surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Christiana Hospital. Born in Wilmington, DE, Louis was the son of the late Frances (Dougherty) and Louis M. Fidance, Sr. After graduating from Wilmington high school, he served his country proudly in the US Army Company A, 299th Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II and was awarded the Victory medal, European, African, Middle Eastern service medals and a Purple Heart from injuries received while on active duty. In the 1960's, he and his cousin Nicholas Fidance owned their own business Fidance and Fidance Construction. He earned his Masters of Education Degree at West Chester University in 1972 and continued college receiving credits towards a Doctorate while working as a teacher at De La Warr High School. In 1970 he began as a guidance counsellor when DelCastle Technical High School opened, and taught GED testing with Groves Adult Education at night for 20 years, finally retiring from DelCastle in 1990. After retirement, he continued with Groves conducting GED testing at Marshallton, Chrysler and various prisons throughout Delaware. Louis was a member of St. John the Beloved Church and a life member of the VFW McDaniel Post. His first wife, Marie Riley Fidance predeceased him along with his brothers, Joseph, Ralph, Alfred, Anthony, & John, and his sister Frances Malgiero. Some of things Louis enjoyed were being outdoors working in the yard, gardening and spending time and talking with family and friends. Everyone who knew Louis will miss his ever present beautiful smile and his calm, pleasant personality, he was intelligent and a man of his word who was deeply loved and his calming presence will be sadly missed. Common words of advice from Louis were 'Everything in Moderation'. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 36 years, Joyce (Callaway) Fidance; his daughter, Theresa M Fidance of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Nicole Marie Fagan (John), Charles Cyril Lennon IV and Lindsay Irene Lindell (Jack); six great grandchildren, John and Dylan Fagan, Travis and Lukas Kusters and Jade and Jack Lindell, IV. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Sunday, November 15th between 3 and 5 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10:30 AM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.
