He was born Feb. 12, 1915 in Upper Mifflin Twp., Newville the son of Norman R. Hoover Sr. and Ethel A. Boll Hoover.
Hoover is preceded in death by his first wife Anna Elizabeth Gabler Hoover, who passed away Oct. 23, 1965 and his second wife Ruth Roxanna Warren Mitchell Hoover who died July 16, 2000.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He attended the Newville Assembly of God, was a life member of V.F.W. Post 6070, and American Legion Post 421, both of Newville.
Hoover was a farmer, contractor, carpenter and mason for many years, he built the Newville Little League Clubhouse. He retired from Shippensburg University where he was Maintenance Supervisor.
He was the last surviving member of the Newville High School Class of 1933. In 1962 he organized the Dusty Trail Riding Club of Newville. He owned and operated Runamar Kennels in Shippensburg.
Hoover and Anna had seven children. He is survived by four sons Mac E. and his wife Emma of Carlisle, Charles L. and wife Shirley, Barry N. Sr., and his wife Virginia, and Roger A. Hoover I and his fiancée Janet, two daughters Yvonne M. Heintz, and Karen A. Hoover all of Newville. Two stepdaughters Nancy L. Mitchell Koser and her husband David, and Mary A. Mitchell Thrush Yeager and her husband Donald, both of Shippensburg, two sisters Ethel V. Baer of Newville, and Frances Jean Chamberlin of Shippensburg. 17 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren, 17 Great Great Grandchildren, 7 Step Grandchildren, 13 Step Great Grandchildren, and 4 Step Great Great Grandchildren.
Hoover was preceded in death by one infant son Ronald L. Hoover, one stepson Alex L. Mitchell, one sister Alma R. Showaker, five brothers Filmer R. Hoover, Chester L. "Ted" Hoover Sr., Dean W. Hoover, Norman R. Hoover Jr., and Harold L. Hoover, one granddaughter Sharon K. Heintz, and one grandson Brandon N. Hoover, and one step great grandson Aaron C. Mitchell.
A viewing will be held Thursday April 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Newville Assembly of God 403 Oak Flat Road Newville, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in the church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the church with the Rev. Jeffrey Kettering officiating. Burial with Military honors will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery Shippensburg.
