There are two Jacobs in White Deer Township who are probably the same person:
1850 Census: Jacob Bucher b.abt.1796 wife Susannah (she is age 52)
1860 Census: Jacob Bicher b.abt.1794 wife "R." (she is age 60)
Further research is needed to confirm they are the same.

3. Census in 1850 in White Deer Twp., Union, PA. 5 The 1850 census recorded Jacob Baker, wagon maker, 30, living with wife Margret, 28; daughter Sarah, 12; Amos, 10; and James, 8. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania.

4. Census in 1860 in White Deer Twp., Union, PA. 6 Jacob Bicher, age 66, wagon maker, is the head of a household. The census doesn't spell his wife's name, only the letter R is written. She is 60. Living with them is Joseph, age 22, wagon maker; Sarah, 21; Amos, 18; and James Mare, 17, laborer. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Ranck's paternal grandfather, Jacob Becker, a wagon maker by trade, was a native of Berks county, Penn., but settled upon a farm at the present site of New Columbia about 1818, and there he and his wife, Margaret Long, passed their remaining years, the latter dying October 13, 1862, aged sixty-two years and eight months, and the former passing away November 27, of the same year, at the age of sixty-seven.
Of their ten children, Rachel died in infancy; Mary married Fred Ludwig, a farmer in Ohio; Levi, who married Eliza Miller, is a farmer of Montgomery county, Penn.; Charles, a blacksmith by trade, married Miss Elutz; Margaret married Charles Corp, a carpenter at Lewisburg, Penn.; Catherine (deceased) was the wife of James Taylor, a farmer of Minnesota; Jacob left home, and his present location is unknown; William, who died in 1895, was twice married, (first) to Matilda Peters, and, after her death, to Carrie Haynes, also deceased; Sallie married a farmer; and Amos G. (Mrs. Ranck's father), who was born at New Columbia, November 25, 1840, and is still residing in his native township for fifteen years he followed the sawyer's trade but at present is not engaged in any regular business.


Jacob married Margaret Charlotte Long. (Margaret Charlotte Long was born in Feb 1800 in , , PA 6 and died on 13 Oct 1862 in New Columbia, Union, PA 3.)
