Diehm, 9 Independence Ave., Conyngham, died at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday at St. Luke Manor. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie (Beecher) Loose. She was a graduate of Reading High School, and Syracuse University. She was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and the Catherman Bible Class, the A.A.U.W. Gourmet Club, and the Phi Mu Sorority. She served on the boards of the YWCA, Girl Scouts, and the Hazleton Women's Club. She also served as president for two terms for the American Association of University Women. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Victor C. Diehm Sr., and her stepmother, Verdila Houck Loose. Her husband was one of the founders of Radio Station WAZL and he served two terms as president of the Mutual Broadcasting System. He was nationally known as a humorist and dinner speaker. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Elizabeth) Bernstein, Conyngham; a son, Victor C Diehm Jr., Palm Harbor, Fla.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; "a sister, Anne K. West, St. Paul, Minn. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 ajn. from St Paul's Methodist Church, 133 W. Green St., Hazleton. The Rev. Jeffrey Snyder will officiate. Interment will take place in Union Cemetery, Conyngham. Friends may call at the Rosenstock Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Methodist Church or a charity of one's choice. Hazel married Victor Christian Diehm. (Victor Christian Diehm was born on 7 Nov 1902 in La Plata, Charles, MD,4 died in Aug 1980 in Conyngham, Luzerne, PA 4 and was buried in Conyngham: Conyngham Union Cemetery, Luzerne, PA 4.) |
