1. Obituary: On June 2, 2023, Debra Lee Smith, 66, of Harrison Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home with her beloved husband and daughters by her side. Debi was born in Bay City, Michigan on August 29, 1956 to her late parents Albert and Gloria (née Predhome) Creighton. She was the devoted wife of Terry Smith, who not only surrounded her with love, but embraced everything important to Debi, grounding her in compassion and support.
Deeply devoted to her family, Debi was a pillar of strength for her family and countless others for most of her life. Among her many gifts, was an ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Debi made friends everywhere she went, and her zest for life was an inspiration to so many. While she encountered numerous obstacles throughout her life, Deb was a force of nature, and her will to not only survive, but to thrive - was unbreakable and infectious. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. These qualities served her well and allowed her to make meaningful impact in a fulfilling career in the field of community mental health.
Of all the roles she embodied, the one Debi cherished most was being a "Mimi" to her five grandchildren and to the children of friends and neighbors. They brought her endless joy and were the light of her life. She poured her love into each of them and taught them to appreciate the small (big) things in life.
Debi had so many interests and hobbies. In recent years, she could be often be found boating on Lake St. Clair, watching sunsets at the marina, delving into all forms of art - from watercolor painting to photography - as well as gardening, sewing and crocheting. Debi will be deeply missed but her light will continue to shine bright, bringing comfort, strength and encouragement to all those who knew and loved her.
Debi is survived by her husband Terry and her daughters Cheryl (Michael) Steed of Brooklyn, NY and Danielle McFadden of Harrison Township, MI. She was the proud "Mimi" of Delilah, River, Dinah, Daniel Jr., and Ivy; treasured aunt of Darlene, Dianne, and Beth; friend and cherished loved one of many. In addition to her parents, Debi was preceded in death by her sisters Linda Impullitti and Dawn Goodrich.
Visitation will be held in the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main Street, Mt. Clemens on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 3:00-8:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 11:00am. Friends are welcomed at 10:00am.
Debra married Dorren Allen Beeker Sr., son of Warren DeWitt Beeker and Mary Grace Ciaramitaro. (Dorren Allen Beeker Sr. was born on 17 Aug 1949 in Detroit, Wayne, MI 1 2 3 and died on 24 Feb 2024 in Mount Clemens, Macomb, MI.)
