1. Obituary: The Ithaca Journsl on 23 Mar 2017 in Ithaca, Tompkins, NY. 1 Elsie R. Meeker, 100, of Sitrin Health Care formerly of Rome, NY, died on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the home. She was born on May 29, 1916, in Ithaca, NY, a daughter of the late Ernest and Emma Edwards Rose. She was later adopted and raised by Martin and Kate Giles Barnacle. Elsie attended Ithaca High School and married William Henry Meeker on May 19, 1935.
She worked for Rothschild's Department Store in Ithaca and retired in 1977. Elsie enjoyed her time at Rothschild's because it was like family and she looked forward to all the social gatherings they offered. Elsie was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church in Barneveld, NY. She wintered in Clermont, FL and continued to drive until she was 97 years old.
She is survived by her children, Alta DeLong of Remsen, William Henry Meeker, Jr. of VA and Ernest Meeker of Remsen; two daughters in law, Isabel and Linda Meeker; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special nieces and a nephew, Shirley LaBumbard, Paula Meeker and John Meeker. She was predeceased by her husband, William Henry Meeker; son, Charles Meeker; daughter, Carol Wilkins; three brothers and two sisters. The services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg, NY. Arrangements are with the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford.
