Obituary: The Missoulian on 11 Apr 2005 in Missoula, Missoula, MT. 3 Curt Bierwagen, 72, of Helena, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away April 11, 2005, surrounded by family as his loving heart took its last beat. Curt was born June 9, 1932, in New Leipzig, N.D., to Reinhold and Lydia (Bohnet) Bierwagen. He came to Montana as an infant with his family. Curt will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Curt was an easy-going man who made anyone he came in contact with feel like a long-time friend. He enjoyed boating, four-wheeling, coffee with the guys and helping his family and friends whenever they had needs arise. Curt enjoyed seven years of retirement after 30 some years of being a stucco mason. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, serving mostly in Alaska.

This is a special tribute to Carolee, his granddaughter, and Seanna, his great-granddaughter. They came to Helena three weeks ago from their home in Woodland, Wash., to help care for Curt. They made his days brighter with their love, laughter and smiles. Thank-you so much.

Curt is survived by his wife, Carol Bierwagen; sisters, Medora Towe, Wyona Malatare (John), and Lila McGee (Larry); children: Jenny Bailey (Jim); Lori Scalise (Jeff); Kim Bierwagen; Doug Bierwagen (Ruth); his extended family: Kathy Bienz (Stephan); Yvonne Williams; Dawn Porter (Doug); Todd Williams (Sue); grandchildren: Nick, Aaron, Steven, Kevin, Sean, Carolee, Ken, Chris, Bridger, Dillon, Johnny; and four great-grandchildren.

His parents and his brother Roger Bierwagen preceded him in death.

Friends may pay their respects beginning today at noon up until noon Friday at Hagler-Anderson Chapel. Private family services will be held followed by interment at Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Harrison, with military honors being conducted by the Lewis and Clark Veterans Council. The family prefers memorials to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, P.O. Box 4455, Helena, MT 59604.


Curtis married Priscilla Anne Chacksfield, daughter of Anthony Francis Chacksfield and Betty Jean Beicher, on 24 Nov 1968 in Tijuana, , BC, MEX.1 The marriage ended in divorce on 26 May 1982. (Priscilla Anne Chacksfield was born on 4 Apr 1939 in Laguna Beach, Orange, CA 4 and died on 21 Jul 2020 in Stockton, Cedar, MO 5.)
