A son of the late Peter & Emma Kreiser Deaven, he was a retired miner. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Sarah Bucher Deaven; two sons., Harold, at home; and Norman, Lebanon; three daughters, Esther and Verna, both at home, and Ruth, wife of Henry Rausch, Palmyra. Surviving also are one brother, Jacob Deaven, of Lebanon, and six sisters; Mrs. Sadie Kohr, Lebanon; Mamie, wife of Edward Henry, Strasburg; Sallie, wife of .John Kohr, Fredericksburg; Mrs. Bertha Pickle, Strasburg; Mrs. .Jennie Eckman, Lancaster; Mrs. Mabel Knapp, New Holland, and one grandchild. Interment in the Sattazahns Lutheran Cemetery, Lebanon Co., Pa.

Joseph married Sarah A. Bucher, daughter of George Bucher and Kate Sattazahn, on 12 Aug 1922 in Union Twp.: Sattazahns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lebanon, PA.¹ (Sarah A. Bucher was born on 14 Apr 1897 in Union Twp., Lebanon, PA,^{1 3} died on 26 Oct 1992 in Union Twp., Lebanon, PA ¹ and was buried in Union Twp.: Sattazahns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lebanon, PA ¹.)
