JOHN GILLETT was born in the old town of Painted Post, a few miles from Corning City, November 15, 1801. On December 14, 1821, he married BETSEY BUCHER, daughter of GEORGE BUCHER, of Luzerne Co., PA, who was born January 5, 1794. Mr. Gillett learned the gunsmith trade when a boy, and in 1822 came to Caton. On May 9, 1823, he settled on the farm on which he lived until his death, which occurred on April 12, 1880.
