Census in 1860 in Tuscarora Twp., Perry, PA. 4 John Bucher, age 52, laborer, is living with wife Rebecca, 50; Anna E., 26; Adam, 24; twins Joseph L., 23, and George L., 23; May C., 20; Sarah R., 16; and Eliza A. 13. John's has no real estate of value and his possessions are worth $150. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. The post office is Newport.

2. Military in 1864: in the Civil War. 5 From the "History of Perry County, Pennsylvania" on pages 574-576:

One-Year Service - 208th Regiment, Companies E,F,G and I.

The 208th Regiment included four companies, E, F, G, and I of Perry Countians. It was organized at Camp Curtin, September 12, '64, and left Harrisburg the next day. It was assigned to the Army of the Potomac and during the winter was under fire at various times. After the Confederates captured Fort Steadman this regiment was engaged with the Federal troops in its recovery, losing forty-two killed and wounded, and taking 300 prisoners. It was engaged in the final assault on Petersburg.

4. Census in 1910 in Olive Pct., Saline, NE. 1 Adam Bucher, 75, real estate agent, was married for 44 years to wife Rachel E., 65. She had birthed 8 children, 6 still alive in 1910. With them in 1910 was daughter Dairy A., 22, single. Adam, Rachel, and her parents were born in Pennsylvania. Adam's parents were born in Germany. Dairy was born in Nebraska.

On the same census page is Thurston E. Bucher, mail carrier, 38, married for 15 years to Mary E., 36. She had birthed 2 children, 1 still alive in 1910: son Glen I., 10. Thurston and Glen were born in Nebraska. Thurstons parents were from Pennsylvania. Mary was born in Iowa of a father from England and mother from Ohio.
