Next door is Catherine Bachman, 62, living alone, who is presumed to be Nicholas' mother-in-law. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania, including Nicholas who in other Census years is listed with a birthplace of Switzerland. Nicholas' farm is valued at $1,500.

2. Census in 1870 in Chillisquaque Twp., Northumberland, PA. ¹ Nicholas Bucher, age 65, farmer, is living with Elizabeth, 69; and son John, 38, farm laborer, and daughter Sarah, 36. His farm is valued at $6,000 and his possessions $1,600.

Next door is Daniel Roder, apprentice in car factory, 28, with wife Catherine, 32. He has no real estate and possessions worth $150.

The next household is Nicholas' son Samuel Bucher, 44, farm laborer. He is living with Rebecca, 38; Charles, 13; William, 11; George, 9; David, 5; and Nicholas, 2. Samuel's real estate is worth $1,000 and possessions $250.

Everyone was born in Pennsylvania, except Nicholas who was born in Switzerland.

Miss Sarah Bucher, a sister of the late Frank Bucher, of Milton, died at her home in the country, about three miles east of Milton, at 1 o'clock Wednesday morning. She was 63 years of age. Heart failure was the direct cause of her sudden demise.

4. Obituary: Miltonian on 1 May 1896 in Milton, Northumberland, PA. ⁴ Miss Sarah Bucber died at her borne in Chillisquaque on Wednesday last aged about 63 years. She will be buried in the lower cemetery here this (Friday) morning at 10 o'clock. She was the sister of the late ex-county Treas. Frank Bucher and was highly esteemed by her many friends.
