1. Census in 1870 in East Earl Twp., Lancaster, PA. 13 The 1870 census recorded Jacob Ranck, farmer, 36, living with wife Susanna S., 33; son Diller, 9; son Sheaffer, 7; and son Jacob R., 2. Also in the home was Samuel Eshelman, 29; and Sarah Boly, 17. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. The post office was Terre Hill.

Susanna S. Ranck, wife of the Jacob Ranck now living near Beartown, writes me as follows in regard to his Diller ancestors : "My husband's mother was Lucy Diller, a daughter of John Diller, who was a brother of Adam, Daniel, and George Diller ; and her brothers are Nathaniel and John Diller ; her sisters were Polly Geigley, Joanna SheafFer, Savilla and Rachel Diller." Adam had several sons, and also several daughters, who still reside in the vicinity of New Holland.

3. Newspaper: The Semi-Weekly New Era, 7 May 1887, Lancaster, Lancaster, PA. 2 Married: RANCK-BEECHER. Wednesday morning, May 4th, at the bride's home, in Eden, this county, by Rev. Charles L. Fry, of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jacob Ranck, of East Earl township, to Miss Laura, daughter of William C. Beecher.

4. Census in 1900 in East Earl Twp., Lancaster, PA. 14 The 1900 census recorded Jaocb Ranck, farmer, 65 born Aug 1834, living with wife Laura, 44, Apr 1856; and daughter Bertha, 10, Jan 1890. Also in the home is Franklin Ghirk, hired farm laborer, 27. Everyone and their parents were born in Pennsylvania.

John D. Ranck, an honored and much respected retired farmer of New Holland, Pa., was born in East Earl township, Lancaster county, Nov. 27, 1829, and is a son of Jacob and Lucia (Diller) Ranck. His father was a farmer in Earl township, where his good standing in the community was attested by his election to the office of supervisor. His death occurred in October, 1875, when he was seventy-five years old; his wife passed to her rest the same year, at the age of sixty-eight. Both were members of the Lutheran Church, and were buried in the New Holland cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Ranck had the following family: John D.; Jacob, a farmer of Earl township; Margaret, a single lady; Martin, unmarried, and living in Lancaster; Diller, a farmer in Chester county, Pa.; Luella, who married Daniel W. Groff; Barbara A., married to Isaac Musser, and living in Lancaster; David, who died young; Elizabeth, who also died young.
The paternal grandparents of J. D. Ranck were John and Elizabeth (Shively) Ranck; his maternal grandparents, John and Margaret (Rhoads) Diller. Both families were honorable farming people of Lancaster county.
Mr. Ranck was married in December, 1856, to Louisa Diller, by whom he had one child, Mary E., who is unmarried, and is living at home. Mrs. Ranck was born in April, 1837, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Basore) Diller.
John D. Ranck lived with his parents until marriage, when he moved to Chester county and was there engaged eight years in farming, moving into East Earl township to carry on a farm the same length of time. In 1887 he established himself on a farm where he is found the present time. Mr. Ranck has been supervisor of Earl and East Earl townships, and was known as an honorable and efficient official. In politics he is a Republican. He stands well in the community.

Obituary: Lancaster New Era on 2 Jun 1913 in Lancaster, Lancaster, PA. 15 BROTHER AND SISTER DIE, Deaths of Jacob and Margaret Ranck Occur Within a Few Hours of Each Other. - Death twice within a few hours visited the Ranck family on Saturday, taking away two members. The first to pass away was Jacob Ranck, Eden, who died at o'clock Saturday morning, and at 12 his sister, Margaret Ranck, died at St. Joseph's Hospital, this city.
Jacob Ranck died at this home at Eden-on-the-Conestoga, in Manheim township, his death being due to a complication of diseases. The de-' ceased was a native of Lancaster county, having been born near New Holland, August 16, 1833, was therefore in his eightieth year.. For many years he resided in East Earl township,at Fetterville, where he conducted a large farm very successfully. He was a staunch Republican in politics and for three terms served as School Director of East Several years ago he left the homestead farm in East Earl and moved to the Beecher place at Eden, where he resided until his death. Lately he had lived retired.
Mr. Ranck was well known all over Eastern Lancaster county, and was considered one of the best farmers in that section. He is survived by his second wife, who was Miss Laura Beecher, daughter of the late William C. Beecher, and three sons by the first wife, Diller J., who farms the homestead place; Roland, of Brownstown, and Edward M. Ranck, State Veterinarian of Mississippi and a member of the faculty of the Mississippi Agricultural and Mechanical College, at Starkville, Miss, A daughter, Bertha, by the second wife, also survives, ag do a sister and brother, Barbara, wife of Isaac Musser, of East New street, and John Ranck, of New Holland.
Mr. Ranck was a member, and for many years a trustee, of Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning with services at the late home at Edén at 11 o'clock, and at 2 o'clock at the Cedar Grove Church, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Margaret Ranck was in her eighty second years and had been in ill health for a long time. She was a native of Lancaster county, born near New Holland, and was affiliated with the Lutheran church.
At different times she had her home with her sister, Mrs. Musser, on East New street. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, with services and interment at the Lutheran Church at New Holland.
