1. Book: History of Abbottstown, PA, 1953. 1 There is a Brethren Church located along the Hanover Highway, two miles south of Abbottstown, in Berwick Township, which has always been considered a part of the Abbottstown community. The first church building was erected in 1868; it was a brick structure and was called the Bucher Meeting House. John Bucher, Daniel N. Bucher and Joseph E. Bouser bore the financial burden of the greater part of this building. The following were ministers of the Upper Codorus Congregation in 1868: Samuel Miller, Andrew Miller, Christian Royer, Henry Hoff, John Bucher, Aaron Baugher, Joel Miller, and D. N. Bucher. Until 1904, the congregation was a part of the Upper Codorus Congreation; thereafter the latter was divided and the Bucher Church became a part of the Plesant Hill Congregation.
