Will of Christian Reck of Cumberland Twp.

IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN. I, Christian Reck of Cumberland Twp., in the County of Adams and State of PA being sick and weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding before God for the same. Do make, publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following viz: PRINCIPALLY and first of all, I commend my immortal soul into the hands of God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent and christen like manner at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named and as to such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give and dispose of the same in the following manner viz:-

It is my will and I order and direct that my just debts and funeral expenses shall be first paid out of surplus of grain or what can be most conveniently spared out of my estate by my executors hereinafter named.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my eldest son, John Reck, my young horse now rising three years old, saddle and bridle, one cow and one ewe and two lambs - over and above any of my other children.

Item: I give and bequeath, unto my beloved wife, Sophia Reck, all the rest residue and remainder of my estate, real and personal, in trust for the maintaining, clothing and educating my children, during her widowhood or until the youngest child shall arrive at the age of twenty one years. And at her marriage or my youngest child arriving at the age of twenty one years, whichsoever shall first happen, it is my will that my whole estate real and personal shall be then sold and that three hundred pounds shall be put to interest for the use and support of my said wife during her natural life, and the principal sum to be divided equally amongst my children at her decease.

My executors hereinafter named are also hereby empowered, the survivors or survivors of them to sell my real estate and to convey the same to the purchaser or purchasers and as touching all the rest residue and remainder of my estate of what kind and nature the same may be or wheresoever found, I give bequeath and devise the same unto my nine children viz: John; Elizabeth intermarried with Abraham Lighterwalter, jr.; Jacob; Catherine; Christian; Sarah, Samuel, William and David to be divided amongst them equally share and share alike but it is my will, not withstanding what is herein before mentioned my daughter Elizabeth having already received about fifty pounds worth at and since her marriage that prior to the above distribution my other children shall be made equal to her as follows, viz: my son John shall receive fifty pounds within one year after my decease and all my other children before mentioned, my said daughter Elizabeth excepted, a like sum of fifty pounds each on this day of their arrival severally at the age of twenty one years, or their marriage and the fund out of which I expect these sums may be paid is the money yet coming to me out of my father's estate aided by a surplus which may arise off my farm besides supporting my family as before mentioned. It is also my will that any farm surplus [if any] shall be applied [unreadable, hole in paper] improvements on the land or put to interest for the increase of my estate.

And lastly, I nominate, constitute and appoint my said wife, Sophia Reck, my said son, John Reck, and my friend, Samuel Beecher, to be the executors of this my will, hereby revoking all other wills legacies and bequests by me heretofore made and ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twelfth day of March in the year of our Lord 1807.
