Census in 1900 in Center Township, Delaware, IN, USA. 5 The 1900 census recorded Howard Pershing, grocery merchant, 47, born Apr 1853, living with wife Eva L., 46, Jul 1854; daughter Minni C., school teacher, 23, Sep 1877; son Ernest H., news paper reporter, 17, Feb 1883; and daughter Addie B., 12, Jan 1888. Everyone was born in Indiana except Eva in Illinois. Howard and Eva's fathers were born in Pennsylvania and their mothers in Ohio. Howard and Eva were married for 25 years and she had birthed a total of 3 children by 1900.

2. Obituary: Rochester Sentinel on 8 Mar 1939 in Rochester, Fulton, IN, USA. 3 Following an illness since last Friday, O. Howard PERSHING, 86, of 401 Ashland Ave. [Muncie], died at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday in Ball Hospital.

A leading Muncie business man, Mr. Pershing had operated the Pershing Seed Store at 205 North High Street for more than 45 years. Prior to that time he had been engaged in the grocery business.

He was born in Rochester, Ind., and came to Muncie about 60 years ago. A nationally known seedman, Mr. Pershing had been written about in several popular farm magazines He was a second cousin of General John PERSHING, and his father was born on the same farm in Warren County, Pa., as was General Pershing.

Mr. Pershing was member of the High Street M.E church and the Welcome Lodge of Knights of Pythias. Surviving are a son, E. H. PERSHING of Muncie and Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Addie HEAVENRIDGE, at home, and Mrs. Minnie BEECHER of Peru; a brother, Marvin W. PERSHING of Indianapolis, and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the G. H. Pipeho and Sons mortuary with the Reverend A. Wesley PUGH, pastor of the High Street M.E. Church, in charge. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.
