1. Obituary: The Gazette and Daily: obituary of William C. Stitzel on 12 Feb 1955 in York, York, PA. ² William C. Stitzel, 48, of 135 Irving road, vice president and general manager of York Paint and Hardware company, died at 3.30 a.m. yesterday at York hospital after a lingering illness. Mr. Stitzel was president of the York Chamber of Commerce in 1949 and was chairman of the Community Chest drive in 1952. He was a former member of the York School board and president of the York County Cornell club, which he helped to organize. He also was a member of the Lafayette club, where he served as president in 1953, and a member of the York Country club. Mr. Stitzel was a past chairman of the York Retail Merchants bureau and at the time of his death was treasurer of the York County Heart association. He was a past president of the University club of York and a former Rotarian. He was graduated from York High school in 1925 and was graduated from Cornell University. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Haines Stitzel. His mother was the late Mary Hamilton Stitzel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Edward W. Baumeister Colonial mortuary, South Queen and Jackson streets. Rev. Dr. Chester S. Simonton, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, of which Mr. Stitzel was a member, will officiate. Interment will be in Prospect Hill cemetery.
