Magdalena and her parents were born in Pennsylvania. David was born in Ohio, his parents in Pennsylvania. Caroline and her mother were born in Ohio and her father in Virginia. Franklin was born in Ohio, his father David in Ohio but his mother in Indiana, suggesting Caroline isn't his mother. Nellie and her parents were born in Ohio.

Census in 1900 in Madison Twp., Montgomery, OH. ³ The 1900 census recorded Magdelane Becher, widowed, 85, living as mother-in-law in the household of Valentine Hay, 48, born Nov 1851, and his wife Maggie, 49, May 1851. They had been married for 24 years and she had birthed 2 children, both alive in 1900. Living with them: daughters Bertha, 21, Mar 1879; and Jessie B., 15, Apr 1885. Magdelane had birthed 9 children, 5 alive in 1900. She and her parents were born in Pennsylvania. Maggie was born in Ohio and her parents in Pennsylvania.
