HENRY BUCHER, residing on section 14, Bristol Township, has been a resident of that township since 1874. His farm was then wild prairie. He was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, September 16, 1841, son of Martin and Mary Bucher, also natives of Pennsylvania. They came to Iowa in 1841, locating at Mount Vernon, Linn County, where the father worked at the blacksmith's trade several years, then removed to Cedar County, where he made a home on a farm and worked at his trade until his advanced age compelled him to abandon it.

The parents now live in Yates County, Nebraska. Of their eleven children Henry was the third and the oldest now living. He remained with his parents until twenty-one years of age; then, in the fall of 1864, enlisted as a soldier in the Union army. He was a member of Company A, Sixteenth Iowa Infantry. He joined the army of General Sherman at Atlanta, and was in the glorious march to the sea. He started with the army on its campaign through the Carolinas, but while in South Carolina sickness compelled him to go to the hospital, where he remained four weeks. He was cared for at Buford, and was then sent to Long Island, where he was carried from the steamer to the hospital, on a stretcher, and for nine weeks had a dear fight for life.

Later he was sent to the convalescent camp at Keokuk, this State, and discharged at that place. He then returned to Cedar County and lived with his parents until September, 1870, when he married Miss Lena Herbst, daughter of Henry Herbst, a native of that county, born in 1850. They remained in Cedar County until 1874, then removed to their present home in Greene County, where they have a well-improved farm and a home with very pleasant surroundings. In the fall of 1886 Mr. Bucher bought an additional forty acres. They have four children\emdash Minnie, Edward, Ebby and Bertie. Willie, Georgie, Amelia and an infant unnamed are deceased. 15. Obituary: Inter-Mountain Globe on 25 Nov 1915 in Hulett, Crook, WY, United States. 2 HENRY BUCHER.
Henry Bucher, one of the well known and respected citizens of Belle Fourche, died very suddenly at his home on South Maple street last Tuesday morning, the immediate cause of his death being a paralytic stroke, being the second attack of the kind within the past month.
Several weeks ago Mr. Bucher suffered a severe attack of this nature at his ranch in Wyoming, and was brought to this city for treatment. He seemed to recover rapidly and was soon able to get around as usual. Mr. Bucher was attending to his business affairs on the streets last Monday and appeared to be feeling as well as ever, and the news of his sudden demise was a great shock to his many friends.
The remains were taken to Churdan, Iowa, on Wednesday evening for interment, being accompanied there by the surviving relatives.
Henry Bucher was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, September 27, 1842. His parents moved to Wayne county, Ohio, in 1843, where they resided until the fall of 1848, later moving to Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and from there they moved to Cedar county Iowa, where he remained until he was twenty one years of age. In the fall of 1864 he enlisted in the Union army, and was with Sherman in his march to the sea. It was during his campaign in South Carolina that he was taken ill and lay for four weeks between life and death. He was later transferred from Beaufort, South Carolina, to Long Island, New York, and from there to Keokuk, Iowa, and later to Davenport, Iowa, where he was discharged from the service in 1866. In 1870 Mr. Bucher was united in marriage to Miss Lena Herbst at Cedar county, Iowa, where they resided until the fall of 1874, later moving to Jefferson county, Iowa, where they took up 160 acres of land. Here they made their home until the fall of 1899, coming to Sioux Falls where Mr. Bucher purchased 400 acres of land. He sold his place at Sioux Falls in 1909, coming to Belle Fourche, and purchased 1,500 acres of land in Wyoming, and also a residence property in this city.
The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Henry Bucher, of this city; two sons Ivan and Rufus Bucher, of Wyoming; Archie, Bert, and Ebbe Bucher, of Sioux Falls and a daughter, Mrs. Charles Martin, Jefferson county, Iowa; three brothers, Joe Bucher, of Nebraska, John Bucher, of Missouri; and Mart Bucher, of Iowa; and one sister, Emma Miller, of Jefferson county, Iowa. - Northwest Post.
