1. Newspaper: Daily News, 21 Sep 1996, Lebanon, Lebanon, PA. 1 Robert A. and Mary Hoffman, 6 West Washington Ave, Myerstown, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Sept. 21, 1946 in the Christ Lutheran Church, Stouchburg, by the late Luther M. Schaeffer.
Mrs. Hoffman, the former Mary Beidler, is a daughter of the late Robert and Miriam Beidler, Robesonia. She is a retired bank teller and enjoys reading and being a homaker. Her husband is a son of Betty Hoffman, Myerstown, and the late Adam Hoffman. A retired school teacher and athlteic director, his hobbies are golf, reading, and travel.
He is a member F & A.M. Lodge 307, Richland Am. Legion, Myerson VFW, Central PSHF Chapter. The couple are members of Christ Lutheran Church. They have three children, the late Yvonne, Mrs. Richard Zeigler; Renee, Mrs. Gary Bicher, Myertown; Peter R. Hoffman, Virginia Beach, Va. They have three grandchildren, Kim Dunkelberger Potts, Jim Dunkelberger, Nathan Bicher and one great-grandchild, Cassandra Potts. A drop-in celebration at their will be held in honor of the occasion.
They will travel to Hilton Head Island, S. C. at a later time.

"Barney" Hoffman, 84, formerly of Myerstown, passed away Thurs day, August 20, 2009, at the Cornwall Manor Health Center. He was the widower of Mary M. (Beidler) Hoffman, who died November 10, 2007, and with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Born March 25, 1925, in Myerstown, he was the son of the late Adam P. and Bertha A. (Heisey) Hoffman. He graduated from Myerstown High School in 1943 and received a degree in Health and Physical Education from West Chester State Teachers College in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Barney is best known for his love of teaching, both young and old, in the classroom, on the athletic fields, and in the swimming pool. He started his teaching career at Myerstown High School, where he taught for 10 years. During the summer months, he managed the Myerstown Playground. He changed professions to the insurance and real estate business from 19611968, after which he returned to his teaching career. He was employed as the first elementary physical education teacher in the ELCO School District, splitting his time between all of the district's elementary schools, and managed the Myerstown Community Pool. His last three years in teaching were spent as ELCO's athletic director. He retired in 1987. During Barney's life he was very active in coaching, both at the high school and the amateur level. He inspired many a successful soccer player at Myerstown H.S., as well as serving in a support role as the J.V. Soccer coach at ELCO, assisting with the teams that won the PIAA Soccer Championship titles in 1977 and 1979. His local soccer influence has been extensive. As a result, the Hoffman-Ritter Cup is held annually between ELCO and Cedar Crest High Schools. Barney was also the coach of the Schaefferstown Barons, an amateur soccer club in the Central Penn Soccer League, from 1966 - 1976. He was elected to the Central PA Chapter of the Sports Hall of Fame, and also received the Chris Jones Memorial Alumni Soccer Award from West Chester University. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stouchsburg; Myerstown VFW; Goodwill Fire Company, Myerstown; Richland American Legion; Mt. Aetna Fire Company; Williamson Masonic Lodge #307, Womelsdorf; and Newmanstown Athletic Club. Barney was an avid golfer, enjoying trips to Myrtle Beach, S.C., during the winter months in his retirement years, and was a fixture of sorts at Lebanon Valley Golf Course. He enjoyed all sports and coin collecting. Barney is survived by a daughter, Renee, wife of Gary Bicher of Myerstown; son, Peter, husband of Nancy Hoffman of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister, Lila Uhrich of Myerstown; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne Ziegler. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at 10 a.m. from Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stouchsburg. The family will receive friends at a luncheon in the social hall of the church following the interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund, Attention: Robert A. Hoffman Memorial, 27 Longs Church Lane, Womelsdorf, PA 19569.
