Probate of Jacob Hamman on 22 Apr 1808 in Easton, Northampton, PA. 7 This court record, dated April 22, 1808, from the Orphans Court in Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, documents a petition concerning the estate of Jacob Haman, late a Yeoman of Whitehall Township, who died without a will (intestate).

Tract 2: Approximately 9 acres, adjoining land of Peter Guth and others.

Court Action Requested & Ordered:
The petitioners prayed for the Court to award an Inquest (jury) to:

Partition the land among Jacob Haman's eight children and representatives according to state law, if such a division could be made without prejudice or spoiling the whole property.

Value and appraise the property if partition was not possible.

The Court granted the petition and ordered a writ to be issued to the Sheriff of Northampton County. The Sheriff was commanded to take twelve "honest and lawful men" (the Inquest) to the property to:

Make a just and true partition under oath or affirmation.

Or, if full partition was not possible, value and appraise the whole.

Or, if the land could accommodate more than one child/representative without being spoiled, divide it into accommodating portions and value/appraise those portions.

The Sheriff and the Inquest were ordered to present their report of the partition or valuation to the Judges at the Orphans Court in Easton on Friday, August 19th next (August 19, 1808).
