Newspaper: Long Beach Independent: Girl Hurt, Cabbie Held for Hit-Run, 11 Nov 1945, Long Beach, Los Angeles, CA. ¹⁴ Harvey LaVerne Austin, 32-year-old cab driver, 700 West First street, was held for hit-run driving yesterday after a Friday night accident in which a motocycle passenger was critically hurt.
Injured was Betty L. Beaver, 19, 35 Riverside drive, who was riding on a cycle driven by Samuel Beecher, Wilmington.
Miss Beaver was thrown from the machine when it was sideswiped by a taxicab on the East Ocean boulevard, Los Angeles river bridge. She was burled onto the pavement and her head struck a bridge rail.
Austin told police he sideswiped a motorcycle on the brdige but did not know anyone was hurt so he continued to his destination with some passengers before returning to the crash scene.
