Franklin Booker

   Other names for Franklin were Franklin Booher ¹ and Frank Booker.^{2 3}

  General Notes:

Frank was a 'stationary engineer', operating equipment in a grain elevator in Shelby, Iowa, where hs eventually died of a fall in the grain elevator. He is buried south of town in the town cemetery, with his wife Mary Alice Folsom and son George.

They had a little house in town. it has since been moved to another location in Shelby.

Franklin changed his name from "Booher" to "Booker."
died 6 December, 1892.

1. Census in 1850. ¹ Samuel Bucher, age 33, was living with wife Mary, 33; Johnathan, 9; Joseph, 8; Franklin, 6; Samuel 4, Anabella, 1. Also in the home was a male laborer [name unreadable] and Mary A. Baird, 15. Everyone was born in Pennsylvania. The value of his real estate was $1,500.

2. Census in 1860 in Pine Creek Twp., Ogle, IL. ⁴ Samuel Booker, 44, farmer, was living with wife Mary, 43; Jonathan, 20; Joseph, 19; Franklin, 17, Annbella, 11; Alexander, 9; daughter Jennie, 5; Margaret, 1. Margaret was born in Illinois, everyone else in Pennsylvania. Samuel's farm was valued at $2000 and possessions $600.

3. Census in 1870 in Lanark, Carroll, IL. ⁵ Following the death of husband Samuel, we find Mary Booker, 55, living alone with her daughters Jennie, 14, and Maggie, 11. Maggie was born in Illinois, the others in Pennsylvania. Mary's real estate is worth $1000 and personal estate $300.

Next door is son Frank Booker, 26, farm labour, living on the farm of Wm Buckly [sic Buckley], 38, and his wife Nancy, 37. They were all born in Pennsylvania. The post office is Lanack.

4. Census in 1880 in Shelby, Shelby Co, IA. ³ Frank Booker, 35, laborer, was living with wife Alice, 24. She was born in IA, her father's birthplace unknown, and her mother in Canada. Frank and his parents were born in Pennsylvania.
