"We will know the moment of truth soon," said Mrs. Samuel E. Beecher Jr., Terre Haute, whose son has been missing in action since June 11, 1967, Chief Warrant Officer Quentin R. Beecher was an Army helicopter pilot.
"We're dazed," Mrs. Beecher said. "We're so absolutely close to the end of this horrendous business. The vigil has been a nightmare. President Nixon used the word vigil, but it's been more light a nightmare for us."

She was born Nov. 19, 1918, in Tulsa, Okla., a daughter of the late Waldo and Gladys (Rippetoe) Mitchell. Mrs. Beecher was a housewife. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Roberta A. and Rodney Brown of Milton and Elizabeth K. and Mark Schultz of Broomfield, Colo.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. David Mitchell of Terre Haute, Ind. and Dr. Howard Mitchell of Stockton, Calif.; and one sister, Roberta Deagan of Lafayette, Ind. 83, Danville A son, Quentin R. Beecher, was a chief warrant officer in the Army, where he was a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. He is listed as Missing In Action. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 18 E. Center St., Danville, by the Rev. Dominick Mammarella, retired. Burial will be in Terre Haute at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made to the Quentin R. Beecher Memorial Award in Aviation, in care of Manager of Scholarships, Indiana State University Foundation, Terre Haute, In 47809-1202. Funeral arrangements were by the David J. Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church St., Danville.
