William P. Beecher, seventy-seven, 22 Church St., was found dead at his home at 9:30 a. m. today.
Dr. Charles P. Stahr, deputy coroner, was called and pronounced Beecher dead. He said death was caused by a heart attack.
He placed the time of death at about 1:30 a. m. Beecher's wife, Bertha, and her sister, Mrs. Nora Detwiler, 337 W. Grant St., who stayed at the Beecher home last night, said they found the man on the floor next to his bed. They tried to contact their family doctor, and later, at about 11:30 a. m., notified city police. Police summoned Dr. Stahr.
He was a retired builder and contractor in the Leola area. Born in Leola, a son of the late Elias Y. and Martha Grube Beecher, he resided in Lancaster for about 23 years. He was a member of St Mark's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, Bertha Mae Shirk Beecher, and these children: Florence, wife of Harry Harsh, Ephrata: Thelma, wife of Harold Killian, Dover R3; William J., Lancaster: Dorothy, wife of Robert Riley, Seaside, Calif.; and Mary, wife of Eugene Minnick, Columbia: also ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.
