2. Occupation: a famous Hollywood actor.
His biography appears on Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Devine

3. Census in 1910 in Kingman, Mohave, AZ. 2 Thomas Irvine [handwriting on census page is hard to read so it was indexed as Irvine instead of Devine], keeper hotel, 41, was living with wife Amy, 37. They were married 11 years and she had birthed 2 children, both alive in 1910: Thomas, 10; and Andrew, 4. Thomas was born in Michigan, and his parents in Ireland. Amy and her mother were born in Illinois, her father in Connecticut. The children were born in Arizona.

4. Census in 1920 in Kingman, Mohave, AZ. 5 Tom Devine, 50, manager hotel, was living with wife Amy, 46; Thomas W., 19; Andrew V., 14. Thomas was born in Michigan, his parents in Ireland. Amy and her mother weres born in Illinois, her father in Connecticut. The children were born in Arizona. They are living at 339 Front St., obviously a hotel since the census lists the names of many roomers in addition to the family. [Note: in 1955, Front Street was renamed Andy Devine Avenue.].

5. Census in 1930 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA. 7 In 1930, Andrew V. Devine was renting a home at 1181 N. Las Palamas Avenue in Los Angeles. He is living alone, although curiously in the married column, it indicates he is married and did marry at age 21. He was born in Arizona, his father in Michigan, and mother in Illinois. His occupation is actor, motion picture.
[Note: since Andy didn't marry Dorothy House until 1933, this suggests he married a first wife in 1927, and was separated by 1930.].

6. Book: John Wayne, American, 1995. 4
In January 1977 And Devine died of leukemia. [John] Wayne had first met Devine in the 1930s, but they became close friends in 1938 during the filming of "Stagecoach," and like everybody else who knew Devine, he had an immediate fondness for the portly actor with the high-pitched, whining voice. Over the years Devine managed to support himself in the business, even if the parts had become more mundane than those he had once received from John Ford. Younger audiences remembered Devine as "Jingles" the jovial, hapless sidekick to Guy Madison in the 1950s television series "Wild Bill Hickok." He was hardly jovial at the end. Chemotherapy robbed Devine of his hair and girth but did nothing for leukemia. Devine was buried at Pacific View Memorial Park in Newport Beach, and Duke decided during the funeral that he wanted to be buried there as well.
