On December 28 Johannes Bücher from Burbach married Elisabeth Catharina Hommel from Wahlbach. His baptismal record is missing so we do not learn his age; his wife was 24 years old. Johannes left Burbach and moved to his wife's town, Wahlbach, located less than 2 miles north of Burbach and a town of some 60 - 65 homes at the time, thus hardly smaller than Burbach.
Johannes was a subject of Nassau whose ruler was Wilhelm II of Nassau-Dillenburg whose reign lasted from 1701 until his death in 1724. Burbach was the seat of the local administration; the government of the principality was located in the city of Dillenburg. The district of Burbach was one of several districts of the Principality of Nassau-Dillenburg and at the same time one of several districts of the Principality of Sayn-Hachenburg. Wilhelm II of Nassau-Dillenburg was succeeded by his brother Christian of Nassau- Dillenburg, who ruled until he died from a hunting accident in 1739. As mentioned above, there used to be a lot of forest in the Burbach area and hunting was one of the major pleasures of the rulers and noblemen. Locals were committed to provide hunting services to the ruler and so was Johannes Bücher. His name was found on a list of 1727 with the men liable to provide hunting service to the Prince of Nassau.
Johannes Bücher and his wife Elisabeth Catharina generated five children, which of three died soon. Only the sons Johann Engelbert and Johann Henrich survived. The
former was 10 years old, the latter not even one, when they lost their mother. Elisabeth Catharina died in the age of only 35 years on January 5, 1733.
Three months after her death Johannes married the 40-year-old widow Anna Elisabeth Thomas from Lippe. She had previously been married to Johannes Wirth , a
herdsman in Lippe, with whom she had a daughter called Anna Catharina, who was seven years old when she married Johannes Bücher. Johannes and Anna Elisabeth had another daughter born in 1734, however, she died
infant. The marriage lasted for 11 years, until Johannes died in 1744. His sons Johann Engelbert and Johann Henrich were 22 and 12 years old at the time.
