Newspaper: Standard-Speaker: Schuylkill Zoning Board Approves Kevin Bicher's Woodworking Shop Construction, 16 Jan 2004, Hazleton, Luzerne, PA. 3 The Schuylkill County Zoning Hearing Board approved construction of a building in Washington Township to be used as a woodworking shop in action taken at their monthly meeting held Thursday evening at the courthouse in Pottsville.
Kevin Bicher, Fredericksburg, who purchased 62 acres in Washington Township, appeared before the board seeking a special exception to the county's zoning law in order to construct a 60 by 80 feet wooden structure on the site where his family would operate a wood shop.
The wooden furniture is sold wholesale to a dealer and there would be very little traffic at the site. The property is near state Route 443.

6. Newspaper: Pottsville Republican: Fire destroys part of Pine Grove business, 7 Apr 2010, Pottsville, Schuylkill, PA. 4 DETURKSVILLE - A fast-moving fire Tuesday morning destroyed part of a furniture manufacturing and wood processing business in Wayne Township.
Firefighters were called to Pleasant Valley Chair, 1238 Deturksville Road, Route 443, Pine Grove, about 10:30 a.m. and found a building at the business engulfed in flames.
Due to a lack of fire hydrants in the area, fire tanker trucks were brought in from as far away as Berks and Lebanon counties to battle the blaze at the 60-by-160-foot building.
Pine Grove fire Chief David A. Sattizahn said an investigation conducted with Friedensburg Fire Chief Richard Moyer determined the fire was accidental.
Sattizahn said owner Kevin Bicher told investigators the fire started in a system that transports wood chips from one building to another. The chief said an adjoining building that processes timber into usable pieces of wood for the furniture-making process only sustained minor damage.
"They (owners of the facility) believe the fire was started by either a spark or by a skid loader that was being used," Sattizahn said. He added that the building was a complete loss.
Bicher said that in addition to making furniture, the company produces the shavings and sells them to area farmers.
Bicher said he and his family are of the Mennonite faith and did not have insurance on the building or its contents.
When asked about the number of employees who work at the facility, Bicher simply said, "It's all family."
If the building is to be replaced, Bicher said it will be done with donations and help from other members of the Mennonite community as well as anyone else willing to pitch in.
Moyer estimated that $225,000 worth of damage was done to the building, while the machinery and other items inside was worth $175,000.
Fire crews responding to the blaze from Schuylkill County included Pine Grove, Pine Grove Township, Schuylkill Haven, Friedensburg, Mount Carbon, Lavelle, Llewellyn and Newtown. Numerous tankers and engines also responded from neighboring Lebanon and Berks counties.
A supervisor at the Schuylkill County Communications Center said the fire was reported at 10:31 a.m. and declared under control about 1 p.m.
A portion of Route 443 was closed while firefighters battled the blaze to allow portable ponds to be set up for tanker trucks to shuttle water to the site.
