3. Obituary: Marion Star: Obituary of Charles Mayer on 15 Apr 1890 in Marion, Marion, OH. 1 Charles F. Mayer, a Highly Esteemed German Citizen, Dies of Heart Trouble

Death has claimed another of Marion's citizens, this time coming suddenly and unexpectedly. Charles F. Mayer, a very highly esteemed German citizen, died at his home on Windsor street, Monday night.

Until last Saturday Mr. Mayer had been attending his former price duties as usual, but on that day complained of feeling rather poorly and remained at home. Sunday and Monday he improved somewhat and was about his home, apparently in good health excepting a slight indisposition.

Monday evening he had conducted family prayer and retired to his bed. He had barely reclined on his pillow until he complained to his wife of a difficulty in breathing. Even then nothing serious was thought of, but in ten minutes he had passed away.

Mr. Mayer was a native of Germany and was 65 years of age. He came to America when a young man, and made Marion his home about 35 years ago, since which time he has continuously resided here and during that time has made a wide circle of friends. For more than 20 years he was a baggageman at the Bee Line depot. A few years ago he resigned that position of his own accord and afterwards went into the retail oil business, which he followed to the time of his death.

Mr. Mayer was a member of the Koscuisko Lodge of Odd Fellows and a devoted member of the German M. E church.

He was also a local minister and had frequently preached to Marion audiences. Indeed only two weeks ago he addressed the congregation at the church with which he was allied. He was a steady, industrious and much esteemed man, against whom naught can be said.

Charles married Margaretha Kies on 29 Aug 1849 in , Ulster, NY. (Margaretha Kies was born on 7 Oct 1828 in Dietenhausen, , BW, DEU,3 6 7 died on 31 Jul 1909 in Marion, Marion, OH 6 7 and was buried on 3 Aug 1909 in Marion: Marion Cemetery, Marion, OH 6 7.)
