Born in Chester, Mr. Steward lived there until 1964 when he moved to Wallingford.
For the last 23 years he was employed in the power division of the BP Oil Corp. refinery in Marcus Hook. Previously he worked as a core maker at General Steel Casings for 16 years.
Mr. Steward was a member of the Sinclair Athletic Association and the West End Boat Club.
Besides his wife, the former Thelma Powell, he is survived by one son, Ronald of Wilmington; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Beacher of West Chester and Mrs. Patricia McNally of Brookhaven; one sister, Mrs. Ralph Figgs of Pinellas Park, Fla., and three grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Melvin I. Minshall Funeral Home, Middletown and Knowlton Roads, Middletown. Burial will be in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Lower Chichester.
Calling hours will be Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Charles married Thelma Winifred Powell, daughter of William Winford Powell Sr. and Pearl Evelyn Tull.
