4. Newspaper: Cecil Whig: Elkton woman killed in Christmas Eve crash, 24 Dec 2015, Elkton, Cecil, MD. 7 ELKTON '96 An Elkton woman was killed on Christmas Eve day after her car veered off an Elkton-area road and hit a tree, police reported.

Linda Nell Scott, 53, of Elkton, was pronounced dead at the crash scene on Old Elk Neck Road near Justice Way, said Lt. Michael Holmes, a Cecil County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

The fatal crash occurred at about 12:15 p.m., when Scott lost control of her 1995 GMC truck while traveling in the northbound lane of Old Elk Neck Road, police said. The truck veered off the right side of the road, hit a tree and came to rest on its roof, partly in the northbound lane, police added.

Emergency workers blocked a portion of Old Neck Road from the Jones Chapel Road intersection to south of the crash scene for more than two hours, while members of an accident reconstruction team conducted their on-scene investigation, police reported.

Although the crash is still being investigated, police believe the slick roads may have played a factor, Holmes said.

The Christmas Eve crash is the second fatal accident on this section of Old Elk Neck Road in the past two months. On Nov. 5, two people were pronounced dead at the scene of a two car crash in the 2400 block of Old Elk Neck Road, near Justice Way, and two more went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Christmas Eve the world lost a beautiful soul and wonderful person. Linda Scott was taking from us too some due to a horrible accident. She left behind a loving husband, son, and her 5 year old granddaughter who meant everything to her. Her family is now left to try to pick up the pieces of their life and learn how to live with out her. Unfortunately Linda did not have life insurance and her family dose not have the means to pay for arrangements without help. I am asking for help from family and friends for David, Gene, and Anna to help with the hardest thing they have been faced with. Linda was my mother-in-law but was much more than that to me. She was so much to so many and always helped any and everyone she could. Anything anyone can donate to help will be used to help lay her to rest. Linda's family and I appreciate everything everyone has done and can do to help. We loved her and we know everyone who had the pleasure to know her loved her too. Thank you.

6. Newspaper: Cecil Whig: Woman killed in Christmas Eve crash: CCSO had aided her family just days before, 28 Dec 2015, Elkton, Cecil, MD. 9 ELKTON \emdash An Elkton woman was killed on Christmas Eve day after her car veered off an Elkton-area road and hit a tree, police reported. Linda Nell Scott, 53, of Elkton, was pronounced dead at the crash scene on Old Elk Neck Road near Justice Way, said Lt. Michael Holmes, a Cecil County Sheriff's Office spokesman. Scott was killed in the single-vehicle crash five days after she and her husband, David Scott, a U.S. Army veteran, were recipients of a good will effort by CCSO deputies, the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services and volunteers, as part of an Operation Helping Hand project.
On Dec. 19, after learning that the couple had been struggling due to extenuating circumstances, a work crew performed much-needed yard work and made repairs at the Scotts' Elkton-area home, reported Cpl. Michael Kalinsky, who headed the effort. With the help of a donation from the North East Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6027, the good will effort also resulted in electricity being restored to the Scotts' home after the couple had gone without power for approximately three months. They used a generator, as needed, to get by during that time, he reported.
On Nov. 5, two people were pronounced dead at the scene of a two-car crash in the 2400 block of Old Elk Neck Road, near Justice Way, and two more went to the hospital with nonlife- threatening injuries. According to Kalinsky, CCSO deputies, CCDES and other volunteers helped the Scotts, in part, because neither was physically able to perform the work.
David Scott served 22 years as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, making more than 50 jumps with the Army Rangers and Path? nders to earn his Airborne Wings, reported Kalinsky, who researched and con? rmed his Army service after David Scott supplied his retirement papers, military ID and VA card. His resume also includes serving in Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada in 1983 and Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989, Kalinksy reported. In 2004, David Scott received an honorable medical discharge from the Army, according to Kalinsky, who reported that his combat jumps had taken a toll on Da- vid Scott's body. He wanted to serve three more years, to make it 25 years of service, but he was unable to do so, Kalinsky noted.
CCSO posted a narrative of the Operation Helping Hand effort that helped the Scotts, along with several photos, on the agency's Facebook page on Dec. 19 and again on Wednesday. "Linda didn't want to be in any of the pictures we took that day because she couldn't stop crying. She was so overwhelmed that people she didn't even know were there to help. They were de? nitely tears of joy and gratitude," Kalinsky said, adding, "She told me that this reaf? rmed her faith in people." On Saturday, two days after Linda Scott was killed in the crash, CCSO posted following on its Facebook page: "The Sheriff's Of? ce sends our deepest condolences to her husband David and family on their loss.
CCSO Deputies along with members of the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services, and volunteers from the community had spent the previous Saturday assisting Mr. and Mrs. Scott during Operation Helping Hand."

Born September 23, 1962 in Okinawa, Japan, Linda was the daughter of the late Richard George Beacher, Sr. and the late Peggy Jo (Allen) Beacher. Linda was a lifelong resident of Elkton; even though she traveled with her husband, David, across the country and fell in love with Louisiana, Elkton was always considered her home.
