Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Terence and Mary Gordon Connell.

Helen was a graduate of West Catholic Girls' High School, Philadelphia.

She worked in the banking profession in Philadelphia, Ateeco Inc. (Mrs. T's Pierogies), Shenandoah, and prior to her retirement she was an assistant manager for Towne Jewelers, Schuylkill Mall, Frackville.

Helen was a member of Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah, and was a supporter of the Association of the Miraculous Medal.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was her husband, Albert G. Zitkus, who died on Jan. 9, 2007; a brother, James Connell; and a sister, Joan Cassidy.

Surviving are three daughters, Terri Ann, wife of John Green, Shenandoah, Gigi, wife of Matthew Seyfert, Bethlehem, and Joanie, wife of Attorney Robert Matta, Weston Place, Shenandoah; five grandchildren, Luke Matta, Jake Matta, Sara Seyfert, Lila Seyfert and Jenna Matta; a sister, Mary Ann Smith Guthrie, Hockessin, Del.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Helen enjoyed many pursuits in life including painting and going to the casino and local bingos. She was an avid sports fan and especially liked watching golf and basketball. However, her most cherished and precious pleasures in life were being with her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning from Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Annunciation BVM Church, Shenandoah. The Rev. James Bechtel will officiate. Committal services will be held in Annunciation BVM Chapel, Shenandoah Heights. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Dawn Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. The family prefers donations to Annunciation BVM Church Memorial Fund, 218 W. Cherry St., Shenandoah, PA 17976, or American Lung Association of the Mid-Atlantic, 3001 Old Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.


Helen married Albert G. Zitkus, son of George Anthony Zitkus Jr. and Mae C. Beacher. (Albert G. Zitkus was born on 18 Dec 1940 in , Schuylkill, PA,5 6 died on 9 Jan 2007 in Shenandoah, Schuylkill, PA 6 7 and was buried in Shenandoah: Our Lady of Dawn Cemetery, Schuylkill, PA 5.)
