Born June 29, 1937, in Carlisle, he was the son of the late John R. Sr. and Tressie (Keck) Snyder and the widower of Pearl Kough Snyder, who died Oct. 14, 2006.
Jack was previously employed by Ziegler Moving and Storage in Carlisle for 19 years, the Carlisle Area School District for 20 years and the Carlisle School Police for eight years.
He was a lifetime member of the Empire Friendship Fire Co., a lifetime member of the Carlisle Special Fire Police and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1299 in Carlisle, AMVETS Post No. 274 and the Carlisle School Police. He was a past president of the Friendship Fire Co. Jack was an avid supporter of Carlisle High School athletics and a proud supporter of D.A.R.E.
Surviving are a son, Robert M. Snyder (and his wife, Sue) of Carlisle; a daughter, Pamela J. McKay (and her husband, David) of Carlisle; seven sisters, Shirley Delp, Patsy Shover, Eileen Heberlig, Margaret Bridge, Joanne Swartz, Judy Hershey and Sandra Snyder; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy S. Aungst, and a sister, Carolyn Bender.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, in the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Iva L. O'Brien officiating. Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. Monday until the time of the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, at the convenience of the family.
