1. Obituary: Hickory Daily Record: obituary of on 12 Dec 2005 in Hickory, Catawba, NC. ¹ Jack Thomas Bowen, 81, of Conover, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at Conover Nursing Center. Born Feb. 15, 1924, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Marshall and Myrtle Maye Byers Bowen.
He was a U.S. military veteran and a member of Oxford Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Canipe Bowen; two sons, Charles and Michael Bowen; and a brother, Fred Randall Bowen. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Bowen and Teresa Bowen of Conover; a son, Jackie "Squill" Bowen of Waco, N.C.; a stepson, Bill Canipe of Lawndale; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Della Frye of Hickory; and two brothers, William Hubert of Maiden and Jimmy Ray Bowen of Granite Falls. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1 p.m.
today, Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at Oxford Baptist Church. The Revs. Joel Frye and L.N. Pruett will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be performed. The family received friends Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home and Cremations in Conover.
