Charlie was born March 10, 1952, in Catawba County, to Jack Thomas Bowen of Hickory and the late Betty Sue Canipe Bowen. He was an Army veteran and was employed by American Efird, Nelson Plant 2 in Whitnel. In addition to his father, he is survived by three sons, Charles R. Bowen Jr. of Shelby, Randy Bowen of Hickory and John C. Bowen of Lenoir; two daughters, Cindy Willix and husband, Eddie, of Connelly Springs and Angel Bowen of Shelby; a brother, Jackie Bowen of Hickory; two sisters, Mary Gross and Teresa Bowen of Hickory; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services for Charlie R. Bowen will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with the Rev. John Houser officiating. Interment will be at noon Thursday in the Oxford Baptist Church Cemetery in Hickory, The Bowen family will receive friends Wednesday following the services at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.


Charles married Cathy Delorous Sluder, daughter of Charles Dilly Sluder and Ruby Gladys Epley.1 The marriage ended in divorce on 9 Aug 1972. (Cathy Delorous Sluder was born on 29 Jul 1953 in Hickory, Catawba, NC 6 7.)


Charles next married Lorene. The marriage ended in divorce on 16 Jun 1983.
