Obituary: The Daily Item on 4 Jan 1977 in Sunbury, Northumberland, PA. 1 MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS - Ray Allen Spotts, 56, Mount Pleasant Mills RD1, died at 5:15 p.m. Monday in his home of a heart attack. Mr. Spotts had just returned home from his office when he was stricken. He attended George Washington University, Washington, D.C. during the early years of World War II, he was employed at the Indiantown Gap Military Reservation until November 1942, when he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He was discharged in July 1945. He then operated a magazine circulation company and later owned an operated the Spotts' Cove Restaurant in Mount Pleasant Mills. Mr. Spotts later operated the Spotty Cap Co., which produced pick-up camper caps. He had been associated with the Lynn Gemberling Real Estate Co., Sunbury, for the past seven months. He was born April 29, 1920, in the Port Trevorton RD1 area, the son of the late Fred Roy and Katie Hoffman Spotts. In 1941, he was married to the former Hazel Mae Tompkins, who survives. Mr. Spotts was, a life member of Grubb's Lutheran Church and Sunday School, Port Trevorton RD1, where he served on the church council, and was president of the Bible Class of the Sunday school; a member of Middleburg Lodge 619, F. & A.M.: Williamsport consistory: Zembo Temple, Harrisburg; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1173, Selinsgrove; Selinsgrove; American Legion Heiser-Hoffman Victory Post 5640; V.F.W., Middleburg; Fremont Fire Company, Mount Pleasant Mills; and Freeburg Fire Company. In additino to his widow, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Larry Hummel Middleburg RD1, Mrs. Sharon Torbick of Mount Pleasant Mills RD1, and Rae Ellen, at home; three granddaughters; and three brothers, Robert H. and Fred R. Spotts Jr., both of Mount Pleasant Mills RD1, and Franklin I. Spotts of Milwaukee, Wise. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Grubb's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Celo V. Leitzel will officiate, assisted by seminary intern Harold Hand. Burial will be in Grubb's Church Cemetery. Friends will be received by the Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills, Thursday evening, or in the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service. A masonic service will be conducted in the funeral home by Middleburg Lodge 619, F.& A.M., at 8:30 p.m. Thursday. A military service will be conducted at the grave on Friday. Contributions in his memory may be made to Grubb's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in care of the Rev. Celo V. Leitzel, Selinsgrove.
