Newspaper: Salisbury Post, 31 Jul 2011, Salisbury, Rowan, NC, USA. ¹ Abigail Leigh Bucher of Salisbury and Eric Cameron Ness of Midlothian, Va., were united in marriage Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Blacknall Memorial Presbyterian Church in Durham. The Rev. Allan Poole officiated the 1 p.m. ceremony, which was followed by a reception hosted by the parents of the bride at the Washington Duke Inn near the Duke University campus in Durham. The bride was escorted by her father, William M. Bucher Jr. She wore her mother's original peau de soie wedding gown with an overskirt of organza and beaded lace, and a pair of diamond earrings once owned by her great-great-grandmother. The bride carried a cascading bouquet of lilies, alstroemerias, and delphiniums. Lauren Terwilliger of Austin, Texas, sister of the bride, was the matron of honor. Serving as bridesmaids were Erin Carpenter of Easley, S.C., cousin of the bride; Melanie Ness of Durham, sister of the groom; Sarah Safley of Wake Forest; and Elizabeth Sloop of Salisbury.
Bridesmaids wore slate blue mid-length dresses with white sashes and carried bouquets complementing the bride's arrangement. Helen Hedlund of Midlothian, Va., niece of the groom, served as flower girl. Danielle and Randy DeVere of Warrenton, Va., cousins of the bride, served as guest registrars. Yujing Xue of Kalamazoo, Mich., served as best man. Groomsmen were Ryan Amos of Orlando, Fla., cousin of the groom; Chris Baker and Greg Hsu of Charlottesville, Va.; and Caleb Vandenheuvel of Durham. The groom is the son of Gregory and Sara Ness of Midlothian, Va. He is the grandson of Donald Ness and the late Marjorie Ness of Williamsburg, Va., and Richard and Helen Amos of Midlothian, Va. Eric is a 2006 graduate of Thomas Worthington High School in Worthington, Ohio, and graduated in 2010 from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He is a second-year student at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville.
The bride is the daughter of William and Gayla Bucher of Salisbury. She is the granddaughter of Joseph and Claire Trolier of Potomac, Md., and the late William M. Bucher Sr. and Alma Carpenter of Shelby. Abbey is a 2007 graduate of West Rowan High School and graduated from Duke University this May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Sciences and Policy. In the fall, she will be attending the University of Virginia School of Architecture in Charlottesville, Va.
Pianist David Stuntz of Durham accompanied violinist Munty Natour of Lynchburg, Va., and soloist Eunji Yim of Cary. Paulson of Durham directed the wedding. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at the King's Daughters Inn in Durham. A bridal luncheon was held at the Guglhupf Café in Durham on June 24. After a honeymoon in Cancún, Mexico, the newlyweds will make their home in Charlottesville, Va.
