4. Obituary: The Dispatch: obituary of Edna Lillian Beeker Coppley Coates on 26 Jan 2006 in Lexington, Davidson, NC. 4 WELCOME | Edna Lillian Beeker Coppley Coates, 82, of Welcome-Arcadia Road, formerly of Linwood, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Linwood United Methodist Church, where she was a member, by the Revs. Cynthia Arnold and Keith Heitman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Coates was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Davidson County to Willie Joseph Beeker and Clara Idella Berrier Beeker. She was a retired employee of Link-Taylor. At her church, she was a former Sunday school teacher for the Junior Sunday School Class and a member of the church choir and Women's Missionary Society. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Arvel L. Coppley and James T. Coates; two granddaughters, Sherri and Tern Coppley; three sisters, Willie Veigh Beeker Plummer, Clara Mae Beeker Harkey and Lena Virginia Beeker; and three brothers, Bernice Luther Beeker, Giles Walter Beeker and Charles Harby Beeker.

Surviving are one daughter, Marilyn C. Heitman and her husband, Keith, of Walnut Cove; one son, Louie W. Coppley and his wife, Teresa, of Welcome; one sister, Anice Edgison and her husband, Coy, of Mount Pleasant; two brothers, the Rev. Melvin Beeker and his wife, Frances, of Linwood, and George Beeker and his wife, Margaret, of Lexington; nine grandchildren, June Coppley and his wife, Kelly, Scott Coppley, Todd Coppley, Jeffrey Heitman and his wife, Phyllis, Phillip Heitman and his wife, Missy, Mark Heitman, Jonathan Heitman and his wife, Maribeth, Tony Miller and Adam Miller and his wife Kim; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the residence of the son at 421 Welcome-Arcadia Road.

Memorials may be directed to Linwood United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 82, Linwood, N.C. 27299 and to Hospice of Davidson County, P.O. Box 941, Lexington, N.C., 27293.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Davidson County for all the love and kindness shown to Mrs. Coates during her illness.
