6. Newspaper: Journal and Courier: Beeker Home Afire, 1 Jan 1920, Lafayette, Tippecanoe, IN, USA. 13 The home of John L. Beeker, northeast of Battle Ground, was damaged by fire at 9 o'clock Thursday morning. The conflagration was caused by sparks from a chimney, Mrs. Beeker was engaged ina conversation over the telephone with her daughter, Mrs. Morris R. Parks, of this city, when a neighbor informed her the roof was in flames. A volunteer fire brigade hurriedly formed and the blaze was soon entinguished. The damage will no reach a large amount.

BATTLE GROUND, Dec. 10 -- John L. Beeker, 68, lifelong resident of this community, died of heart trouble last night at 10:45 o'clock at the Home hospital, Lafayette. He had been ailing for two years. Born at Battle Ground, Nov. 30, 1869, he was a son of Manford A. and Mary Magdeline Beeker. On Nov. 30, 1892, he married Dora Hendrickson. Mr. Beeker was a member of the Methodist church and Masonic lodge No. 313. Since a young man he had been engaged in farming. Besides his widow, he leaves four daughters: Mrs. Opal Aper and Miss Bernice Beeker, Monroe, Mich.; Mrs. Hazel Chenoweth. Pontiac, Mich., and Mrs. Maggie Hornbeck, Colfax; a son, Manford E. Beeker, Brookston, also eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Laura Shigley, Battle Ground. Friends may call at the residence, four miles north of here, after 6 o'clock Friday evening. Services Sunday at 2 p. m. from Pretty Prairie church. Burial in Pretty Prairie cemetery. Thompson and Moore, funeral directors of Brookston, in charge.
