1. Census in 1940 in Flat Rock Township, Bartholomew, IN, USA. ⁵ The 1940 census recorded John Holder, farmer, 37, living with wife Hazel, 37; and daughters Rose, 5; Irene, 3; and Eloise, 1. Everyone was born in Indiana. On the same census page is farmer Walter Holder, 52, with wife Edna, 48 and family.

2. Newspaper: Columbus Republic: obituary of John Martin Holder, 28 Nov 1994, Columbus, Bartholomew, IN. ¹ John Martin Holder, 92, of Road 500N died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 1994, at his home.

He owned and operated Clifford Grain Elevator for 45 years and also had been a farmer. He was a member of Hope Moravian Church, where he had served as an elder, trustee, Sunday school superintendent and teacher of the men's Bible class. He attended Purdue University.

He served 12 years on the board of directors of Wabash Life Insurance Co. in Indianapolis, was a member and past president of Indiana Grain Dealers Association, was a 50-year member of Camon Masonic Lodge at Clifford and was a member of Clifford Order of the Eastern Star, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine.

Funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hope Moravian Church, with the Revs. Bryan Trotter and Gary Straughan officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Norman Funeral Home at Hope and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Bartholomew County Area Hospice or the Perpetual Care Fund of Hope Moravian Cemetery.

Mr. Holder was born in Bartholomew County Sept. 3, 1902, the son of Martin and Lettie Reed Holder. He married Hazel Gosch June 26, 1930. She preceded him in death Sept. 9, 1990.

He is survived by daughters, Rosemary Trotter of Columbus and Irene Beeker and Eloise Golden, both of Hope; grandchildren, Bryan Trotter and David Golden, both of Indianapolis, Marla Batt of Charleston, W.Va., Barry Trotter of Columbus, Cheryl Finke and Susanne Embry, both of Hope, Brent Beeker of Michigan and Bruce Beeker of Greenfield; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Walter and Charles Holder; and sisters, Zella Schumacher Ross and Lucy Ross.
