1. Newspaper: Council Bluffs Nonpareil: Accident Victim Is Spectator at Trial, 20 Nov 1943, Saint Cloud, Stearns, MN. 1 ----- Accident Victim Is Spectator at Trial ----- ST. PAUL (A.P.) -- Three-year-old David T. Beecher of Dubuque, la., whose right leg has been amputated at the hip, was an interested but puzzled spectator in federal district court Friday as Judge Robert C. Bell heard a suit growing out of the loss of the leg. His father, Joseph A. Beecher, asks damages of $75.000 from the Great Western railroad, contending the railroad was negligent when on Aug. 19, 1942, a train ran over David, severed his foot at the ankle, and shattered his leg so badly doctors had to amputate it at the hip. While David hopped about on one leg or crawled on the courtroom floor, attorneys for both sides, through witnesses, argued the question of negligence.
