1. Newspaper: Baltimore Sun: Beekers Help Rescue Flood Victims, 13 Jul 1949, Baltimore, Baltimore, MD. 5 Torrential rains came yesterday in the wake of Maryland's long drought and caused flash floods in two sections of Baltimore county and throughout Western Maryland. At Parkton, Baltimore county, water from the Little Gunpowder Falls flooded the York road 4 feet deep, and ran into the Parkton Post Office, a garage and at least one home. The Little Gunpowder also overran its banks in the White Hall area. There was nearly an inch and a half of rain in the Baltimore area during the day, and amounts up to 42 inches in a twelve-hour span in Western Maryland. The Little Gunpowder rose more than a foot an hour at Parkton after it started raining heavily about 11 A.M. The stream burst its banks at 2.30 P.M. Mrs. Ruth Rosier, whose home is about 100 feet back from the York road, was talking about the rising water on the telephone when Charles Mackart, 26, of White Hall, rowed up to her front door in a small boat. He advised Mrs. Rosier that she and her 8-year-old son, Jerry, should leave immediately since it wasn't known how high the water would get. The Rosier home was the only one evacuated because of the flood. Four persons worked in water that rose to a depth of 4 feet, however, to move machinery and auto equipment from the first to the second floor of Webster Sut ton's garage. Miss Nellie Beeker, 22, of Parkton, and her brother, Murle Beeker, 25, and Mrs. Talmage Rosier, of White Hall, aided Sutton as the water flooded the garage.
