Darrel Beeker, 71, longtime Columbus, Indiana, resident, passed away at 7:39 p.m. Tuesday at Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.. He was born on Feb. 4, 1944, in Washington, the son of Ora and Rita (Ainscough) Beeker. On July 2, 1966, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Washington, he married Diane K. McGookey and she survives.. Mr. Beeker retired after 32 years of service from Cummins Inc., Columbus. He had been active at All Saints Catholic School for many years serving as coach and athletic director in the 1970s and 1980s. He was a long time member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, and had been a member of the Columbus Optimist Club, serving as club president and Lt. Governor. He had also been a member of the Kiwanis Club and Jaycees. After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at the Love Chapel Food Pantry.. In 2011, he and Diane moved to the Cincinnati area to be closer to family, where he was an active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. In his spare time, he was an avid miniature car collector, enjoyed woodworking and loved to watch westerns.. Survivors include his wife, Diane K. Beeker of Loveland; sons, Derek and wife Giselle Beeker of Loveland, Darin and wife Sue Beeker of Rochester, Indiana, Devin Beeker of Grand Rapids, Michigan; grandchildren, Kyleigh Beeker of Rochester, Diego and Nigel Beeker of Loveland; brothers, Melvin and wife Phyllis Beeker of Seymour, Harry and wife Carol Beeker of Columbus, Ray and wife Catherine Beeker of Bloomington; sisters, Frances Allen of Shrewsbury, Missouri, Sandy and husband Howard Sowl of Avon; brothers-in-law, James and wife Cindy McGookey of Huntingburg, Robert and Beth McGookey of Washington; sister-in-law, Delores Beeker of Evansville; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth Beeker and Marlin Beeker; and brother-in-law, Henry Allen.. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Tufts Schildmeyer Family Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Ave., Loveland. Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8815 E. Kemper Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, where friends may call one hour prior to service.. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at Garland Brook Mausoleum, Columbus, where committal services will take place at 4 p.m. Following committal services, friends and family are invited to celebrate Darrel's life at Mexico Viejo Restaurant, 2520 Central Avenue, Columbus..
