Pruitt, 86, was killed Saturday by gas fumes but his wife, unconscious when discovered, apparententiy was recovering. The couple spent several hours their apartment while an unlighted jet in the stove oven filled the rooms with gas. A neighbor who called police after she failed to see the Pruitts during the morning said the oven apparently was left burning Friday night and that the flame went out later allowing unburned gas to escape.

Pruitt, 86, of 222 N. J. St., from asphyxiation caused by gas fumes escaping from a gas stove oven jet, which had been left burning, but which had gone out. Pruitt's wife was in Good Samaritan Hospital, but was expected to recover. A neighbor, Mrs. Lulu Frances, reported to police when she failed to see the couple Saturday morning. It is believed that the Pruitt's had dined Friday night and gone to bed without turning off the oven.

Mrs. Carrie Harland Prultt, 81, widow of the late Hiram D. Pruitt, of 222 North J St., Lake Worth, died Friday night in a local hospital from the effects of asphyxiation last weekend. Mrs. Pruitt and her husband were discovered Sunday by neighbors at their home. Mr. Pruitt had succumbed to the gas fumes and Mrs. Pruitt, who was unconscious when discovered, never regained consciousness in the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Pruitt came to Lake Worth from Hoopston, Ill. last October. Mrs. Pruitt is survived by a niece, Mrs. Margaret Beatty, and two nephews, Frank Eyman and John Harland, all of whom came to Lake Worth after the asphyxiation of Mr. and Mrs Pruitt. Services and burial for both Mr. and Mrs. Pruitt will be held in Hoopston, with Tom Smith Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.
