5. Newspaper: The Richmond Item: Mrs. Coffing and children struck by lightening, 15 May 1894, Richmond, Wayne, IN. 10 Four People Struck by Lightning.
Covington, Ind., May 15. -- A storm visited this place yesterday accompanied by more than the usual amount or lightning. Four members or Smith Coffing's family of this city were struck by the same bolt. Just outside their door they stood together and all fell in a heap. The elder Mrs. Coffing, her daughters, Mrs. Graham and Miss Carrie Coffing, aged 15, and also Leona Graham, aged 6 years. Mrs. Coffing and the child were only stunned. The others, after a long time, regained consciousness, but it is doubtful whether they will recover.

COVINGTON, Ind., Nov. 1. -- Mrs. Louisa Brown Coffing of this city recently celebrated her ninetieth birthday at her home, with all of her living children present. They are William B. Coffing and Miss Mattie Coffing, Covington; Mrs. Leona Hall, Veedersburg, and S. A. Coffing, Cincinnati, O. She was born in Shawnee township, Fountain county, and is the widow of the late Smith Coffing. She is sprightly for her, age and attends church, and recently made a trip to Cincinnati unattended. In the early days she usually identified herself with the nearest church in reach, her present church home being with the Methodists.

COVINGTON, May 6. (Special) Mrs. Louise Meeker [sic, should be Beeker] Coffing, 94, one of the oldest residents of Fountain county, died at her home here at 2 o'clock this morning. She had been in failing health for over a year but death was directly caused by pneumonia. She was a lifelong resident of this vicinity. Surviving are two sons: William, of Covington; and Allen, of Cincinnati; and two daughters: Miss Carrie Coffing. at home; and Mrs. Leone Hall, of Veedersburg. Funeral services, in charge of the Rev. A. L. Brandenberg, will be conducted from the Covington M. E. church Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock, with burial in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Hope cemetery, for Mrs. Louisa Coffing, 93, who died Sunday at her home here. She was a daughter of William and Mary (Baeker) Brown, and was born in Shawnee township, Oct 16, 1840. Her husband, Smith Coffing, died 24 years ago. Four of seven children survive.


Louisa married Smith F. Coffing, son of Andrew Coffing and Abigail Crane, on 8 May 1859 in , Fountain, IN, USA. The marriage ended in divorce. (Smith F. Coffing was born on 9 Feb 1837 in , Fountain, IN, USA,16 17 died on 26 Aug 1909 in Troy Township, Fountain, IN, USA 16 17 and was buried on 28 Aug 1909 in Covington: Mount Hope Cemetery, Fountain, IN, USA 16 17.)
