E. Franklin Bohl, 77, of 3646 Congress St., Allentown, died Wednesday in his home. He was the husband of Helen B. (Boles) Heard Bohl and the late Helen (Menagh) Bohl.
He was president and coowner of the former Allentown Converting Co., a subsidiary of the former National Silk Dying Co., Paterson, N.J. Bohl started with National Silk in 1932 and when the company opened a branch in Allentown in 1935, Bohl was transferred there. In 1959, he was elected president and general manger of the Allentown company. In June 1964 Bohl turned over the deed to the city of Allentown for 4.2 miles of the Lehigh Canal and the Hamilton Street Dam for future development. In exchange, the city guaranteed a free supply of water from the canal.
Earlier that year Bohl acquired the property on an auction bid from the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Co. Born in Paterson, he was a son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Ihrman) Bohl. He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Allentown. Survivors: Wife; daughter Lisa, wife of Edward Heagy of Allentown; sister, Mrs. Alice Broadhurst of Ivoryton, Conn.; brother Lester of New Martinsvile, W.Va., and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Edward Franklin Jr., and a daughter, Helen E. Services: 11 a.m. Monday in the church. Ca Call 10:30-11 a.m. Monday in the church.
