(Slusser) Barnhart, age 79, of Gardners died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. Valda was born Jan. 10, 1930, in Gardners, a daughter of the late Denzil W. and Maude A. (McKinney) Slusser. Valda retired from Forest Park Nursing Home after 17 years of service. She was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Goodyear. Valda enjoyed doing jig-saw puzzles and search a word puzzles. She also enjoyed playing bingo. She will be missed by her dog, Peanut. She is survived by her three sons, Donald W. Barnhart of Dillsburg, Michael L. Barnhart of Walnut Bottom and Timothy R. Barnhart of Gardners; three brothers, Walter Slusser of Gardners , Christopher Slusser of Mechanicsburg and Kermit Slusser of Fairfield; three sisters, Mereda Helm of Gettysburg, Faye Bowermaster of Carlisle and Paulette Kelley of Carlisle; five grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and Frank Slusser, and one sister, Marcella Moose. Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 S. Main St., Bendersville. Funeral services will be at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 4200 Carlisle Road, Gardners at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Kenneth G. Swick officiating. A viewing will be held in the church from 10 a.m. until time of services. Interment will be in Goodyear Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association, 3001 Old Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
