Born on Jan. 10, 1921, in Lebanon, he was a son of the late Calvin A. and Gertrude E. Gerberich Smith. He was a shipping clerk, working at Bogene, United Grocers, and Binners Associates. He was also a part-time custodian at the Schaefferstown Elementary School for 10 years. He was a member of the Myerstown Church of the Brethren. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Glenn Smith, Ellington, Miss.; a daughter, Sue, wife of Roy Derr, Schaefferstown, grandchildren Eric Derr, Schaefferstown, and Kyle Derr, Souderton; and a brother, Chester Smith, Palmyra. He preceded in death by a son, Stephen Smith.
